Closure and break-ups

I have yet to have a break-up where the closure was done in a civil manner, the way it should be. Most were done via text messages and some had no closure at all. It’s not good. I am not proud of these break-ups. Leaves me thinking what’s wrong with me. I would have wanted to have sat down and discuss the break up (be it her initiating it or me) , but it seems Pinays are not just ready yet to handle these closures, done via dinner and talking about why the relationship had to end in an objective manner.

I honestly think I would have felt less heart aches if those break-ups had good closures. It would have explained a lot of stuff right there and then and I wouldn’t have to torture myself thinking of the why’s and what ifs. It would have also explained myself to them on why I felt it wasn’t working.

I also think break-up sex should be a requirement for all girls or boys of splitting up with their partners.

Here are some drafted guidelines, not yet final but it’s mostly the rules… Davaoenos please share this.

BLOG COMPETITION

RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. The 75^th Araw ng Dabaw BLOG COMPETITION is open to all Dabawenyo bloggers. Registration will be on the kick-off event in SM City Davao on February 11, 2012, at 1PM.

2. Each participant can only submit 1 blog entry. In the event that more than 1 entry is submitted, only the latest entry will be considered. The blog can be published in any blog website. The participant is required to send an email to duawdavao@yahoo.com after the blog has been published. The email should contain the following:

- Subject : Official Entry to 75^th Araw ng Dabaw Blog Competition

- Content : URL of the Blog Entry and Name of Participant

3. The blog should be guided by the theme of the Davao Tourism Campaign “Davao : Life is here!” . The blog entries should have a tag/keyword of #Davao, #Araw ng Dabaw, #Davao Life is here, #Davao Tourism and #Araw ng Dabaw Blog Competition. The following footer is compulsory to identify it as a blog entry :

4. The blog can be written in English or Tagalog or Cebuano or a combination of the three.

5. The competition will start from February 11, 2012 and will end on midnight of February 29, 2012. Winners will be announced on March 13, 2012 during the Mayor & Vice-Mayor’s Appreciation program.

6. The Blog entry must have a minimum of 400 words and a maximum of 1,000 words. Images can be added to accentuate the blog article.

7. Blog entry, including accompanying images, must not in any way violate any intellectual property right. Anyone found to have violated this right in his/her blog entry will automatically be disqualified and will be required to delete the blog article.

8. The blog must have a feedback/comment module. Part of the criteria for judging is the total number of unique feedbacks/comments received by the blog article.

9. The decision of the board of judges is deemed final.

10. All blog entries shall become the property of Duaw Davao Festivals Foundation,Inc. As such, the foundation has the right to copy, adapt, transmit, distribute, publish, and display the blog entries in part or as a whole.

11. Blog entries must always be in published mode in the duration of the competition.

12. The criteria for judging are as follows:

Relevance to the theme: 40%

Content : 25%

Organization,Flow of Thought,”Easy Reading”: 25%

Unique Count of Comments & Feedback received: 10%

13. Winners will receive the following:

1^st Prize 20,000

2^nd Prize 15,000

3^rd Prize 10,000

Consolation Prize (5) of 5,000 each

14. The Duaw Davao Festivals Foundation & the City Government of Davao or any of the institutions/agencies involved in the implementation of the Blog Competition shall not be held liable for any copyright infringement committed by the participant. Any other negative results coming from the participant’s failure to follow the rules and regulations will not be the responsibility of the foundation.

15. Duaw Davao Festivals Foundation employees are not eligible to participate in the competition.

How to restore a SQL Server 2008 backup into SQL Server 2005

You Can’t! Yes, you heard me right, you can’t do a straight restore of a backup file from a SQL Server 2008 into a SQL Server 2005. Restoration of back up files can only be done from an old version to a new version. For example , a .bak file from a SQL Server 2000 machine can be restored in 2005 or 2008.

However, don’t lost hope! There’s a work around (just like any other programming challenge).

Do a Generate Script in your 2008 Server. This only works for the full SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Tool.

1. Open SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Tool

2. Right Click on the database that you want to backup.

3. Look for the Generate Scripts menu after the right click event.

4. A form will pop up, there’s an option on the DATA to be included in the generate script. Choose data along with the structure to be generated.

5. Choose compatibility with SQL 2005 in one of the options.

6. Choose all tables you want to backup restore.

voila

you will have each table having one CREATE TABLE / INSERT RECORDS sql files.

How to make a Cross Tab SQL script

Executive reports are usually done in a cross-tab manner. The problem with developers is how to do this out of the SQL code directly without any help from Report wizards.

Usually, when you do a select statement, it will just produce all the records row after row. just like this:

SELECT Job, LengthStay, Salary FROM Employees

Results:

1. Clerk , 10 , 12000

2. Clerk, 15, 14000

3. Mgr , 20, 15000

4. Sales, 15, 11000

To make it a cross-tab report , just simply use a CASE statement:

SELECT Job,

SUM(CASE WHEN Lengthstay = 10 THEN Salary ELSE 0 END ) as 10Years,

SUM(CASE WHEN Lengthstay = 15 THEN Salary ELSE 0 END ) as 15Years,

SUM(CASE WHEN Lengthstay = 20 THEN Salary ELSE 0 END ) as 20Years

FROM Employees

GROUP BY Job
